He pulled out his cell and dialed Fei's number. "Hey Fei, this is Ryder. I'm just pulling up to Silver Star right now. It's about... Five o'clock right now. Call or what ever when you get this message." He hung up and looked at the cars in the parking lot. It was five in the morning and Ryder was running low on steam. He'd been on the road for 7 continuous hours, not mentioning the day before that. He'd just been in a show over in New Mexico. He'd just finished what he'd like to call his 'tour of duty'. Not that giving clinics in every part of the US was anything close to life on the battlefield. But dang, some of those Dressage ladies could be scary. He parked the truck and trailer just in the front of the stable, he looked back at his daughter, Anny, pronounced: 'On-ee'. Think German, he always told people, and Anny had picked up on that phrase and thats what she told everyone else. He hopped out of the truck quietly and crunched out onto the dirt. It was crisp in the early morning air. He walked around to the side of the trailer and pulled out the ramp. He then folded up the side rails and opened the door. Emmy's gorgeous face met with Ryder's eyes first. "Hey girlie. You ready to get out of this stall and into the clean Californian air?" She mumbled a little bellow in answer to the tone of his voice. He pat her neck and clipped the lead onto her halter before he moved her out and into the air. She pranced a little and strained her neck against the firm hold on her lead. Her head raised as high as she could get it, ears perked and nostrils taking in all the scents. Her ears swiveled everywhere and then she struggled against the lead for just a second. But when Ryder gave a firm tug she seemed to realize she was okay and she calmed down. She let out a little sigh and followed him somewhat wearily into the barn. "Good girl." He stuck her into the cross ties and made sure she was okay before he pulled off her shipping boots. |
