Paws and shoes both thundered against the pavement as the black beast dragged the petite girl along. Her arm was fully extended as she struggled to keep up with the Monster. ‘I really need to run more often!’ she thought as she ran faster stretching her legs as far as possible. They were speeding down a road toward town from the stable. “Teras slow down!” She huffed as she tugged back on the leash. He huffed and slowed down a little, one more good wrench and he slowed to a decent walk. Sighing with relief Kaite reached out a hand to stroke his glossy black coat. Her brown eyes took in his build; massive was the first word to come to mind, along with powerful. He was tall, past Kaite’s hip, and thick with muscle. There was little to no fat or extra skin on him, which made seeing his raw powerful muscles easy.[/blockquote] Kaite bought him when he was six weeks old, and started training him as soon as possible. He would be her only protection, since her parents had died. He knew all of the basic commands by the time he was five months. That wouldn’t be enough to save her life, if she was being attacked. So she enrolled them both in attack dog training; where Teras passed at the top of the class. He never attacks or so much as snarls unless Kaite tells him to, or if she screams. Smiling she pushed him and he turned his head toward her, snorted, then proceeded to pick up the pace again. Grunting as she started to run again she realized they were nearing town, and she could see a park. ‘What a perfect place for him to break in this new ball!’ The park was deserted, probably since it was dusk. Double checking the area, Kaite unclipped the lead rope from Teras’s thick leather collar. Without a second thought Teras set off exploring the area, nose to the ground, and tail toward the sky.

Kaite turned her face to the wind so her long hair would stay out of her face. She kept a close eye on Teras; she was just about to call him in when he turned toward a tree. He stopped his massive black body turning to look at something that had drawn his attention. His tail and head where high in the air, his nose twitching, carefully drawing in a scent. Kaite’s instincts took over as he gave a loud woof, and turned to look at her. Her strong legs burst into action; sprinting to him she stood next to him and turned to look at the tree. Her brown eyes found a male sitting on a bench. Her heart flipped as her eyes fell on dirty brunette hair, and stunning blue eyes. ‘I think I went back in time! He looks like a Greek god…’ She thought as her blood pounded through her veins. Her hand reached out calmly to rest on Teras’s large blocky head. Smiling she looked at his out-stretched hand. Her soft sweet voice stroked the air, “Go see him Teras.” Giving him a small nudge with her leg he took off at a slow trot, and within seconds he was sniffing at the boy’s hand. His thick tail started wagging and his deep woof told Kaite he was an acceptable man. Smiling she started walking toward them, as Teras started licking his hand. He looked skeptically at her, as if it was her mission in life to make his life miserable. Once she was close enough to talk to him she was suddenly nervous. Her mind went blank as her shy side started to come out. She fumbled for words as Teras seemed to fall in love with him, leaning against him and trying to lick his face. Seeing him act like a clown gave her some confidence, “Hi, I’m Kaite and this beast is Teras.” She could feel her cheeks turn a little red as she thought about how lame she sounded. PlottingPreachingThe sight
She was taken aback by the almost lifeless blue gaze he gave her. ‘I wonder what has happened to make him feel that way…’ A smile hit her face as he called for his own dog. He was truly handsome, but she could tell he was cautious of her. This stung a little, because she would never hurt anyone, much less this guy she didn’t even know. As the cattle dog appeared she smiled at his beautiful merle coat. She laid her hand on Teras as the other dog growled and stood stiffly, but there was no need for her calm hand. Teras simply tilted his head to the left and wagged his tail. As the boy left the dog to lay on his belly Teras carefully sniffed his side then lowered his upper body eagerly to the ground; he was still a puppy of course.
“He is a lovely dog…” She paused as her brain sifted through what all he had said, “I didn’t catch your name.” Her soft nervous voice drifted softly through the warm air. Her brown eyes looked him over as she thought of his looks. He didn’t really look like a horse person, but why else would he live here? His voice brought her back as he asked if she rode. Excitement pulsed through her as she thought of her one true love, Dallas. Him and Teras where everything she had left, but there was nothing like the bond between her and her horse. As long as she had him she would be ok. Her voice had a new tune to it as she replied her eyes flashing, “I do ride! I have a Quarter horse stallion; would you like to see a picture of him?” She smiled excitedly as she fumbled in her shorts pocket for her cell phone.
