The pitter-patter of a sprinkler system filled the air somewhere off in the distance but it was more towards the ground rather than where the duo sought to go. The tame and trimmed setting did not appeal to them today; rather the trail which led into the slightly untamed, if that was possible for this school’s grounds, forest. A golden head tossed, jingling the reins and casting an ivory mane into the mess of early light; the mare let out a deep whicker and pranced about in a tight circle. The tall boy smiled and laid a cool hand on the mare’s neck, she seemed to settle at the touch and then with a light pressure provided by his thighs, they plunged down the hills and towards the slender trees. The palomino took off at a canter with a slight snort, sending a spray of dust in her wake. These trees were nowhere near pure and untouched nature but they were nearly the closest thing that Gabriel could find and Queenie did not appear to protest.
The path turned to softer dirt, and with that the pair seemed to slow, enjoying the less urban setting they found themselves in. A heavy mist clung to air just above the earth, moving like tendrils around the Akhal-Teke’s limbs as if trying to develop feathers upon her powerful legs. But she would not be obliged, for she was no draft and that much the mist would have to understand. A sense of contentment seemed to wrap itself around the two of them, but the boy in particular. Something had finally settled within him and he seemed to reach the conclusion that this academy was not all that bad. Other than the occasionally rather snobby peers and the dangerous mounts, it was a beautiful and prestigious place. A woodpecker disrupted is thoughts as it tapped its tune into the dry bark of an elm tree. The palomino’s ears shot up and she eyed it suspiciously, or from Gabe’s perspective thoughtfully. Just then a sharp bark sounded and paws scrabbled against the trunk of the tree, Gabe’s introspect turned to a frown as he looked upon his dog. “Belle, leave it alone.” He hissed and the dog obediently turned, abandoning its assumed prey, and trotted deeper into the emerald depths of the forest.
The ambling and relaxing pace was kept at a steady walk, with the occasional burst of energy as they sauntered down the slope of a small hill or leapt over a branch that had recently fallen over the trail. But for the most part they just basked in the faint light and took it slow and easy through the timber railed trail. Belle would occasionally pop her head out from in a bush or from behind the bulky trunk of a tree but her presence was mostly through footfalls and high pitched barks. Gabe gently turned Queenie in the direction of the rightmost path at a fork and then allowed her some of the reins and naturally their pace picked up. The canter was smooth for the trail was managed to provide such, and the two seemed to fly down the soft dirt path. The wind throttled them and caused Gabe to narrow his eyes in order to see, but it was easy enough and a light smile creased his face. But at the sight of a sharp veer to the left, Gabe slowed Queenie down by a good measure so her bouncy trot allowed him to catch sight of the aqua depths of a creek. “What do you say, girl,” He mused as he slowed her until she stopped, “Worth exploring?” Gabe then swung out of the saddle and planted his feet firmly and easily on the trail underneath, collecting the reins in his left hand and turning towards the creek. It was fairly deep and wide, and the waters seemed tantalizing and foreign to the boy. He’d always lived in cities and he’d never seen natural water that was so clear, but he wouldn’t dare complain. All the same, he paced towards the water, the palomino prancing to his left.

Live To Ride
Ride To Live Lexi Maizy Smith Razzy bucked as Lexi sat in the saddle for a canter. She clicked her tongue firmly then Razzy leaped into a canter. As he cantered Lexi stood up in the saddle into a lighten seat position. Razzle felt Lexi move into the lighten seat position and shot off into a gallop. Lexi's long blonde hair flowed in the wind. Razzy took large strides looking everywhere he could. Raz Suddenly came back into walk and walked over to a lake/river. "Come one boy," Lexi said kicking him on. Raz would not turn he walked straight over to the lake where he found another horse "Raz!" Lexi said louder. Lexi looked around because she couldn't see anyone but then she noticed a boy around the same age as her. The first thing Lexi though about was how cute and fit she thought he was. "Come on Raz," She said trying to turn him. Raz turned, but a big circle. Lexi sighed and let Raz drink.

His hands tugged slightly on the leather, making sure it was in place well enough before he turned towards the creek. A slight smile tugged at his lips, he had never swum in a creek but this one looked like a nice one to try it in. See, in the cities all the creeks were far too murky and filthy to even consider taking a dip in. He immediately leaned back against the pale bark of an aspen and began pulling off his tennis shoes, tossing them and the socks near a pile of rocks a few feet away. His hands clutched the hem of his shirt, and he was just about to pull it over his head when he heard the sharp demand, if a bit frustrated, call of a girl. Next thing he knew, a horse seemed to erupt into the area nearby. Queenie immediately strained against the knot, but it held and Gabe moved over to the flustered palomino that let out a snort and sidestepped into him. A slight pressure against her barrel and she shifted over again, eyeing the new horse carefully. The girl attempted to turn him around but to no success, and she seemed to give in and let him catch a drink from the creek.
Gabe, being his normal social self, walked towards the pair after Queenie settled down a bit. He waved and flashed a smile in her direction until he was within earshot of her. “He seems like a handful.” He said with a slight laugh to follow, and then he paused before tacking an introduction onto his short bout. “I’m Gabe, Gabe Hoffman.” A moment passed and the boy’s hand flew to his shaggy hair, as he ran his fingers through it and ruffled the short edges enough to make it only a bit messier than previously. The girl seemed familiar; maybe she was from Silver Star too? He couldn’t decide but figured the answer would come in time if they picked up a conversation. Gabe’s blue eyes turned back to the water, as he admired the ripples and the way the light danced off of their reflective surface. He bent at the waist, and picked up a round, flat stone which he wrapped his fingers around loosely. He tossed it up and down a couple of times before he flicked it towards the creek, where it proceeded to skip across the water a few times before sinking under the surface and joining numerous other rocks against the bed of the creek.
“What do you say, up for a swim?” He said with a laugh as he looked at the water once more, the cool depths looking very appealing in comparison to the hot and sticky air that lay against his skin. Besides, even the horses seemed to see the appeal of the water, as suggested by the girl’s horse’s reaction to it; everything seemed to be feeling the heat. Gabe realized that the leaves of the plants seemed to droop a bit, a factor of constant sun and little rain lately he figured. But, the creek seemed unaffected and Gabe was all for relishing its abundant cool water.

Live To Ride
Ride To Live Lexi Maizy Smith Lexi noticed the boy was getting ready to swim in the creek. She remebered when she first swam in the creek with her sister Ally and their old dog, Sam the Italian Greyhound. When she looked up she noticed the boy was walking towards her. Lexi knew his face from somewhere but she just couldn't get her head around where from. She dismounted and tied Razzy to a large oak tree with the quick release knot. By now the boy was close enough so Lexi could hear what he was saying. She patted Raz on the shoulder. She heard the boy talking to her "Can be," She said smiling at him. She walked over to him slowly because she thought it would be rude not to. "Hi Gabe," She said to him after he intoduced himself "I'm Lexi Smith, and this is Raz," she pointed over to raz. She watched Gabe throw the stone into the water. "hey you go to silver star don't you?" Lexi asked cocking her head to the side. She knew she knew him from some where. She laughed when gabe asked her if she was up for a swim. "Sure! I love swimming!" She laughed.
