God forbid, they put a damn western saddle on her fancy dressage horse's back. Instead of that, he had to flop around like a fish out of water. And that was exactly what he was doing. He hadn't ridden in years to begin with, so not only was he out of his element, he was way beyond rusty when it came to riding. He hadn't even bothered to put a second hand on the reins - he would be holding a piece of toilet paper with it anyway, so why the hell should he confuse himself more by warming up with both hands? Instead, he just worked on trying to stay on, which so wasn't happening. With each and every trot step, he felt like he was about to fall. If this horse bolted? Yeah, he'd be on his ass in the sand. No doubt in his mind.
Well, maybe a little bit of doubt. He had tried a rodeo once against his parents wishes and won the bull riding. Maybe he'd stay on. Maybe.
But, then again, he'd had the friction of jeans against sweaty fur then. Now, all he had was jeans against leather. Leather definitely didn't work as well for the whole staying on factor.
However, he'd let his pride get the best of him and when she'd asked him to ride one of her horses in the fun class, he'd said sure. And he'd be damned if he backed out now. He'd gone through hell and back, almost literally, and he wasn't about to let this darn english saddle get the best of him. Determined to the bone, he sat and asked for a canter. His one hand holding the reins instinctively searched for the horn to rest on like he would out on a trail, since the canter was lovely and even and something he could no doubt relax to in a normal situation. The horn, obviously, wasn't there and his hand instead fell, bashing the heel of his hand into the horse's mane for a moment before rising back up to the appropriate spot. An annoyed glare flickered across his face for a moment.
Never, ever, ever again.
At least, that's what he told himself. He also knew he was one hell of a pushover and if she, or anyone else for that matter, begged just a little, he'd give in again, english riding or no.

Fei forced a straight face and said, "He's a highly bred Dressage horse, he should be easier to ride than a cloud, relax a little. He's a children's horse to by the way, he has also been ridden by handicaps, you're in a great seat, and he's going to make you look really good," Fei said with a slight smile and she winked at him.
Fei moved Largo into a canter and stayed right next to Gray. He was actually doing fantastic, but she felt like messing with him a little.... "Sit back, toes down, shoulders back, Smile. Good, inside leg on, outside rein keep his head down, bend his nose in." Fei looked at him and cracked a smile. "Is this helping you relax at all?" Largo kept up his FEI collected canter to keep a slower gait to keep a slower pace with Donaire. Fei moved off to the side to allow a younger girl threw. Fei did a flying change with Largo and moved him in a fifteen meter circle. She allowed him to trot and then caught back up with Gray again. She let Largo walk, she was a little in front of them so when he caught up she'd move Largo into a trot.
"How's he feel?" she asked, wiping her face wit the back of her wrist. She was sweating from a lot of the hard work.

He growled miserably as she asked if it was helping him relax any. He nearly growled that he knew darn well how to ride just fine on his own, thank you, but he decided against it. For all he knew, he was doing far better than he thought. Instead of watching her, like he probably could have gotten away with, since steering wasn't any different, he glanced around the ring. No one immediately close, since the day was wrapping up. So, taking a deep breath, he let his eyes slid shut. It had been something his brother had shown him on their first trail ride, when Gray had been so tense he'd almost bounced at the walk. He could still hear the words. "Just breath deep, close your eyes, feel the horse beneath you. You'll be alright, Gray, I promise." So, for not the first time, Gray followed his brother's advice.
He still longed for the horn, for the security and regularity of the western saddles he knew so well, but despite this, he began to relax, to breath deeper. And it showed. Letting his eyes slide open to avoid running into anyone, he kept repeating those words of advice over and over. He fed out a little more rein, letting the horse stretch a bit, not even thinking beforehand. He was purely a western rider, having the contact he'd had wasn't natural to him. The horse responded well enough to his leg for it to not make a difference anyway. Shifting his weight, in his mind thinking of his reining days but certainly not expecting that sort of reaction. He felt the haunches of the horse tuck under, the there was hardly any slide. He'd been vaguely hopeful, but this was a dressage horse not a reining horse. There was still a vague smile, crooked as always, on his face.
He'd definitely have to find a western horse or two, and soon. He was beginning to miss being in the saddle.
He pushed Donaire into a walk, letting his reins go ever longer, finally glancing over at her. He pushed the horse sideways to leave room on the outside for the other riders, pulling him in next to Largo and Fei.
I hope you know that there will not be a next time without a western saddle.

"He ... uh.. he's been ridden in western before." Fei smiled even brighter and asked Largo to canter, saying, "He can rein and barrel race by the way." With soft laughter she retreated to the other side of the arena with Largo. Largo seemed to catch on to the witty banter and his tail slapped Gray's foot when Fei made the turn with him.
She waited a couple of minutes before she trotted Largo up, Largo was doing a working trot, well it looked like a small form of passage with how collected it was. "So are you mad I didn't tell you before you got on him?" She asked with a charming and mischievous smile. She pat Largo's withers and let him walk.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i51.tinypic.com/2igiyh1.jpg] The small smile that had started to form disappeared the instant she informed him the saddle itself actually wouldn't have been an issue. His eyebrows furrowed with a scowl as he glared at her. Then, an eyebrow shot up. He could rein and barrel race? Barrel racing, he wasn't surprised. Many horses could barrel race - most didn't have the speed or balance for turning or the love of it, but most could still barrel race. After his slide attempt, he highly doubted that Donaire would be any good as a reiner, either, though it was an interesting fact.
Not so much. More mad that you didn't let me put the western on him.
He replied dryly, still not sounding fully impressed. Still, it didn't stop him from trying to show off. He did know what he was doing, after all. Just... not in the same way she did. He slipped Donaire into an easy canter, still, as he had since the beginning, holding the reins with only one hand. He just didn't bother to gather them up, keeping them held at the buckle. He let the horse canter around a bit, waiting for a moment. He took it immediately when he saw the center line open up entirely. Donaire was turned in, pace picking up around the corner and then easily slipped faster, forcing him out of the extended canter he tried to do and into a gallop. Hey, she let him ride her horse. He would do what he damn well pleased. Then, he tried a proper slide. Definitely not as good as it could have been, but he knew part of this was a lack of training. Most horses hesitated to properly slide until they were used to it. He didn't give Donaire a chance to think, asking him to spin back and into a canter practically before the slide had stopped. There was a moment hesitation, a bit of a stick in the movement. Sure, the horse could probably pirouette, or was at least going to learn to, but that didn't mean he was okay with a rollback. He didn't dare pull Donaire to another stop and ask for a spin. Not after a hesitation like that. A choppy spin, without a saddle he was used to, it would only unbalance him and send him flying, if the horse even cooperated. Instead, he slowed to a trot and came up alongside Fei again, cocky smile on his face.
Yeah, sure, he "reins". It's an attempt, but that would only place at the smallest of schooling shows.
He wasn't about to compliment her on her horse's reining when she refused to give to his western saddle request. He couldn't outright dislike it, of course, because it was better than a great many horses, but still. At least he was relaxing back into the saddle now, breathing, not cursing softly under his breath.
Too bad Jacoby's retired. He coulda shown you real reining. That was one hell of a horse. Won all-around cowboy with him one year competing up in Canada. Years ago, mind.

"Ha-ha," She said with sarcasm. She smiled, "Wait until you feel him spin. And he is unsure because usually we have a western saddle on him, he's thinking like an english horse right now, and this is three inches to sand, not six. Largo and Fantigo don't usually need a different saddle to do the movements, I just haven't done a whole lot except bombproof Donaire. One day I might just show you what Fantigo can do in a western ring... now talk about a spin. As well as gallop from a stand still... those used to be unwanted traits," Fei said with a face. Oh she remembered the first time she'd ridden the horse... oh god that had been terrible.... The horse definitely was 'athletic'.
"Awww Jacoby, I love that name," Fei said with a smile. "You'll have to show me on a different horse. It's funny how horses just pick a sport to love and if they love it enough they'll give it their all. Like Largo, you just love Dressage." The horse lifted his head and nodded slightly his ears bobbing with the rhythm. Fei was scratching a spot on his withers that usually made him do that, but it was on the other side of where Gray was so he couldn't really see, unless he was looking for her hand.
"Good pony!" Largo nodded his head again. Fei laughed and pat his neck. "Ok, so, should we go get this TP class over with?" Fei said looking at her watch and she began to trot Largo over to the ring....
-should we just skip the roleplay for the class and skip to the after part?-

She did take after him, from what I remember of her, though I've never ridden her. Perhaps she'll give a good example.
He replied, small grin on his face at the memory of the lovely blue roan mare. He had two horses back at his place already - Dawn, his orphaned filly, and Konvict, the crazy stallion who hardly gave him any trouble unless in a mood. Then, Ricochet was coming the next day, and a cheap Hollywood Dun It grandson two days after that. It was a busy week, but it would be nice to see the paddocks filling up. He nodded to her question.
Yes, lets, so that I can get out of this saddle.
--- Skip ---
He hopped off almost as soon as he could. It wasn't that he didn't like the horse, Donaire was wonderful - he would admit that - but he wanted out of that saddle, and he wanted out of it immediately. He slid the stirrups up and took the reins over the horse's head, leading him further out of the way afterward.
Well, I think that went well. Considering.
He chuckled, glancing at his watch. He still had an hour before he had to be home to feed Dawn. It wouldn't take longer than ten minutes to drive home, so that meant ample time to untack, even with the talking. He wasn't too worried.

Fei smiled, "I agree!" She pat Largo and walked him out of the ring. She then moved Largo back to the barn. Fei's grandmother sat in the chair by Fantigo's stall. Fei smiled at her grandmother and asked, "Hallo Oma. Wie ist das Pferd?" as she slid off Largo. "Oh, das ist Gray, mein Freund." Fei looked over at Gray. "And Gray this is my Grandmother, Adelisa Von Der Leyen."
"Mrs. Leyen to you," the older lady said with a thick german accent, but she smiled and winked at Gray, both common traits found inf Fei.
Fei rolled her eyes and said, "Just call her Adele." Fei rolled her stirrups up and loosened Largo's girth before she grabbed Largo's halter and removed his halter. "Did Ryder call yet?"
"Yes, he'll be out tomorrow, he had some issues with .. Nova was it? Anyways da stallion, he got loose in da trailer on dee freeway and someting wit da... mare I forget her name."
"Good, great.... I'll call him later and see if he needs any help getting unloaded. Did Liza stop by and say how she and Fitz did?" Fei asked as she took off Largo's boots. Her Oma was taking care of the tack.
"No, not yet. She should go to dinner wit us. You too Gray," Adele said.
Fei hosed off Largo quickly and she pulled out her phone while she was using the Jet Stream on Largo's legs to increase circulation in his legs and hooves. She put the phone to her ear and waited. "Hey Liza! Yeah, just me calling to find out how good you did. Really? Good I'm glad for you! No I didn't ride Fame, Not sure how he'll deal in a show yet and I didn't want to push him too far too quick, and I've been busy enough with my other three. Well good! Did you want to go to dinner with us.... Oh, no problem, ok, well see you tomorrow then," Fei said with a smile and then said good bye before she hung up.
"Liza has something else going on so she's out. She said that new horse did great in the ring, he didn't spook or anything, she said she was pretty proud of him."

There was nothing, of course, but it set his mind at ease. He glanced over at the dinner offer.
I can't, I've got to get home and feed Dawn and Dante. Though, you're welcome to come over instead. I'm sure I've got something I could cook up on the barbeque.
The squirrel had, since he'd met Fei, opened his eyes and begun to move around. As such a cage had been set up. It was probably larger than the squirrel needed right now, but he would grow into it. He'd begun eating other things too, besides the milk, making it far easier to keep him quiet. Dawn was more the issue, needing milk every few hours still. He planned his vet visits around her, and when there was an emergency he called in a favor here and there, though he didn't think he'd mentioned her to Fei yet. Even if he had, her grandmother had no idea.
Dawn's a little orphan filly I've picked up. Her mother got sick and had to be put down and they were going to put her down too, no time to feed her themselves they said. She's far too well-bred to just waste like that though, and I've always been a sucker for charity cases.
He flashed a crooked grin at the two of them before snatching the hose from Fei, half tempted to spray her but deciding against it. She was in her show clothes, after all. Instead, he just sprayed Donaire down quickly, slicking the excess water off with his hand and rubbing the horse's lower legs a bit, knowing how to to get the blood flowing better again with no need to use the harder pressure from the water.

-Grr sorry I had to post it real quick b/c I was leaving my gmas house and I couldn't umm.. take it with me or retype it so i just posted it really quick sorry - Fei smiled, "Sure, that okay with you Oma?" "Sure, why not?" Adele said with a little smile and she looked from Gray to Fei and did a secretive sile. Fei saw it and her brows furrowed. 'What the heck kind of look was that?' she thought but decided to save that question for later. Fei watched him rub down her horse and smiled at his thoughtfulness. Fei walked over and checked up on Fame, who was laying down in his stall fast asleep. She left him there and checked on De Oro, who was playing 'baby bites' with Fantigo threw the bars that separated their stalls. Fei walked in and checked the colt over quietly before he scratched his withers and rump before she left the stall. Fantigo was quietly nuzzling De oro threw the bars but stopped to meet Fei at the door, looking her over for treats. She checked his water and counted his poops and mentally checked how many times he'd pooped in the rings. He was normal if not a little overly so. She went out to the feed room and soaked Fantigo and Fame's hay before she stuck hay in separate buckets before she wheeled in the dry hay. She fed De Oro and Fame before she stuck Donaire and Largo's hay in their stalls. Normally she'd soak Largo's hay as well but since he dipped his hay in his water bucket she'd just give it to him dry so he could eat right away. She then went and grabbed their supplements and filled their grain buckets with water until it was an inch of water over the grain in each bucket. She then carried all five in and dumped the individual grain in their rubber grain buckets. She then stuck Largo in his stall to eat before she walked over to the soaking hay by the hay barn and she dumped the water out by a couple of trees and she walked back in the barn and tossed Fantigo his hay, who began eating the alfalfa quickly, nosing off the grass hay that was on top of the alfalfa. -sorry its crappy busy right now-

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i51.tinypic.com/2igiyh1.jpg] It was probably a good thing Gray wasn't looking, for he undeniably would have noticed the look and known exactly what it meant. Consequently, he would have probably even blushed a little. Instead, he didn't even see it out of the corner of his eye as he finished up with Donaire, then put the horse back in his stall. He nearly went to help her before his phone began vibrating, so he pulled off to the side to answer it, staying out of the way.
Hello?
His mother - naturally. She had a habit of calling at rather inconvenient times. Still, he sighed softly and just listened as she talked for a moment. He was only half listening - all that was ever usually needed - but then a few words caught his attention.
Today?! But - No, it was supposed to be tomorrow! I'm not even at home! Yeah, yeah, I know, too late now.
He grumbled softly after the shock. Clearly, somewhere someone had made some sort of mistake - Ricochet was now coming today. He glanced at his watch. Twenty minutes. He could be home in ten if he really pushed it. He'd be there when she arrived, but still. He very well could have been held up here and not been. He sighed and shook his head. No point worrying about it, he supposed.
Gotta go. Bye.
He shoved his phone back into it's holster, wandering closer and watching for a moment. She was almost done. He almost waited. But then he realized that due to arrive in twenty minutes left plenty of room for good travel time and being early. So, he spoke up.
I'm gonna have to meet you there. There's been a mix up, and apparently Chet is coming today. Just turn right out of the Silver Star drive way, then the first road on your right. House is big, gray, on the right hand side of the road. You won't be able to miss it. Take you're time. If you can't find it, just call.
He flashed her a smile, hiding the impatience with a casual, albeit slightly quick, walk back out of the barn and to his truck, hoping in to head home as fast as he could. He managed to, by some miracle, get a thick layer of shavings into the stall for the mare, as well as a few flakes of hay, before he heard the rattling of the trailer coming up the driveway. The noise had caught the attention of both Dawn and Konvict, the filly's head peered through the fence before she snorted and wheeled into a a little bucking and galloping frenzy. The stallion, on the other hand, stood stock still, just watching, eras flicking between forward and back.
Unloading Ricochet was simple - the mare was an angel. She'd had good manners before he'd left, but she'd matured now as well. She seemed to, somehow, remember him, and all it took was the leadrope draped around her neck and him walking to the barn to get her following him and going right into the stall herself. He slid the leather halter off, wrapped up the lead, and hung it from the stall door. He'd just slid the door bolt on when he heard more tires on the gravel - probably Fei. He gave the mare a rub on the forehead and went to the barn door, peering his head out, waving.
--- house looks like this, stalls like this, with these colors, except only four stalls, two next to each other, the other two across from them, and a little over 100 feet of empty space past that since there's going to be more stalls coming and it's not finished, but all cleaned up <3 outside matching the appearance of the house, the arena is directly off the barn(tack room comes off the aisle that connects this to the barn, not taking up stall space) and there's another bit attached to the barn which serves as his vet clinic for small animals ---

Fei turned down the drive and she felt like she was suspiciously close to the property she'd been eying for the past couple of months. She tried to look in the darkness but she didn't see much of anything. Plus, the land was part of a bigger portion of property and was being sold in sections, this section had nothing on it except a bunch of trees and a family of Red Foxes.
She parked well out of the way of the trailer and shut off her engine and then walked around to get her Oma's door, but she was already out and moving toward the barn. Fei followed quietly, she'd changed, she was now wearing a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt with a beige vest pulled over it, she had a hat on as well, to hide her oily hair from all of the sweaty work of the day. She walked into the spacious barn and looked around.
Fei was about dead on her feet, but the new surroundings pepped her up. Plus she needed to eat before she could fall asleep anyways. She looked at all the horses, they were gorgeous and they all seemed to be very sweet and well behaved... well at leasted that's what they seemed.

Gray hardly paid the stallion any attention, motioning them in instead, turning to head toward the tack room.
Watch Konvict, he gets nasty. Ricochet's on the right, and next to Konvict is Dawn.
He headed to the tack room, quickly grabbing the already-ready bottle for Dawn's feeding, whistling softly as he did so. The whistle was more than enough to bring two dogs running. One was tiny, not much bigger than a yorkie, though the mix of breeds weren't distinct. The other, a rottweiler. He took a moment to let one hand fall on the taller dog's head.
Carmine, the other's Holly. You'll probably see Cobra and Casper around. Kittens, about four and a half months now. Cobra's the brown one.
He figured he may as well get the long list of names out of the way now, next bothering to open Dawn's stall door, just hopping over it, using one hand on the top of the stall door, legs popping over. It wasn't difficult, not for him anyway, and Dawn was used to it by now. She stepped closely, nickering softly. He'd quickly become "second mom" to her, and if he let her, she'd follow him just about anywhere. She also had the routine all sorted out, an intelligent little filly. She let him slip an arm around her neck, head lifting up to grab at the nipple of the bottle cradled in the crook of his other arm. She drank greedily, though distracted ears flickered towards the new people and the new mare.
Chet was already hanging her head over the stall door, watching the two new people with an attentive curiosity. She stretched her nose out to nudge Fei's elbow, and Gray smiled over at the mare.
That's the one I was telling you about, Jacoby's filly. Not exactly a filly anymore, but still. Always was a gorgeous little thing with her mother's build and father's coloring. A real sweet personality, too. Calm as anything. Fire, gunshots, plastic bags... you name it, she's okay with it.

Chet was a sweet looking mare who had gorgeous conformation, at least for the things she was in training for, not Fei's horse type, but she could appreciate other types just as much. "Hey there girl, you're awfully sweet. I don't have any treats, sorry...," Fei said with a little frown before she smiled again and she placed a hand on the mare's nose and she scratched her forehead, loosening a bunch of little hairs. She wiped them away before she moved on to where Gray was.
"She is very fancy, and she seems sweet, at least she didn't try and kill me...," she said sending a wary glance in Konvict's direction. Fei's eyes were a little droopy and she was fighting the glare of the barn lights. She had about another hour on her energy and then she'd crash. "Fire, wow that's impressive, I don't think even Donaire would be good around a fire." She mentally added that to her list of 'de-sensitization' for Donaire. She already knew he'd be her lesson horse at the farm, when she got a farm.
Fei's phone rang and it seemed to wake herself up. She looked down and her brows furrowed at the numbers on the screen. Fei looked at her grandma. "Hat Jessi, dass Sie hier Oma?" Fei asked.
"Nein," Adele said with furrowed brows.
Fei immediately wondered what she wanted. "Excuse me a minute...," she said to Gray. She walked out of the barn quickly and answered her phone, leaning against the wall. "Jessi?" There was a long pause. "What? Fei put a hand on her face as she listened to her sister-in-law. "Jessi are you drunk? Are you sure? What do you mean?" Fei stood up straighter. "Where are you? What?! No! I don't-" she looked around and lowered her voice. "I don't want you ruining my life again! Go back to you're precious daddy!" Fei growled into the phone. "I don't care about his money running out! I don't have anything left anymore either so go find someone else who'll give you an allowance!" Fei said in a hushed yell and slammed the phone shut.
She wanted to scream and chuck her phone and kick something or break something. With shoved the phone in her pocket, sick of looking at it, and she shook her hands out and composed herself. She mentally prepped herself before she walked back into the barn. Fei sent a look to her Oma and rolled her eyes quietly and let out an annoyed breath. But then she focused back on Gray. "So how old is she now?" she asked him, "Dawn I mean."

He replied with a small smile, feeling warm breath on the back of his neck and glance over at Konvict, who was sending disapproving looks at Fei and Adele. Seeing the stallion's ears starting to pin back. Rolling his eyes, Gray lifted one foot, kicking at the stall wall himself. The stallion jerked back, startled, then huffed and grunted at Gray, as if trying to ask why he couldn't be mean if he wanted to. But, with a shake of his head, Konvict resigned himself to standing at the back of the stall looking miserable instead.
He wasn't about to admit he could hear snippets of the conversation on the phone. He just let the topic be. They hardly knew each other well enough for him to say anything, at least in his opinion. Dawn was just finishing as she came back in and he glanced up, noticing the eye roll. He wasn't stupid enough to ask if everything was alright, instead he just let the filly go. Not that it mattered much, she followed him to the stall door.
Two and a half months. She refuses to go near the stall wall with Konvict, so I'm hoping seeing Chet eating grain and stuff will encourage her to try. She won't even take a nibble out of my hand yet, and I can't bottle feed her forever.
He slipped out of the stall, pushing against Dawn's chest to stop her from slipping out after him. She stuck her nose forlornly over the stall door, watching him, silently begging him to come back in and stay with her. He just chuckled softly and ruffled what little forelock hair she had.
C'mon. They're good for a few hours at least. The house is... well, half packed still, but there's places to sit at the very least.
He informed them, heading out of the barn and towards the house. The patio and such was around the back, so he hopped up to the front door, unlocking it since he hadn't even gotten to the house yet since getting back. He swung the door open, slipping his shoes off before moving further in. If anything, the house looked almost bigger on the inside, boxes scattered here and there across the dark, hardwood floor. Off to the right was the living room, one of the few spots that looked unpacked. To the left, a room full with only boxes so far. In front, the kitchen. He headed there, passing the stairs that went up on his right and the one that went down on his left, he motioned to the patio doors.
You can wait out there if you want, or wherever else.
He turned to rummage through the freezer, pulling out some ribs he found, bringing them out to the barbeque and starting it up, heading back into the house to find the sauce and such, before popping back out, putting the ribs on and then settling in a chair to wait.
--- found a better houseeee xD ---
