ANDWATCHMEBURN - - - - - - - - - - - - but that's alright
- - - - - - - - - because i like the way it hurts Just gonna stand there And hear me cry But that's alright Because I love The way you lie I love the way you lie - - - - - - - - - Fei's eyes studied him. The artist in her in awe over the look on his face. She reached out, her hand grabbing his free one with gentle fingers. "You can say it but I won't believe you," she said. It wasn't just 'nothing to worry about' it was different, it was... brave. Sure you could say 'that's what everyone says' but sometimes those corny things are the truth because that's the only way to explain it.
She slid her fingers from his hand and said, "I'll meet you at Silver Spur again, you can give me that massage there," she said with a smile. Truth be told she was a little unsure about being alone with him. Not because he was a soldier or she didn't like him. Fact was he kind of made her nervous, and in the way that she wasn't sure if she liked how it made her feel.
She looked at him one last time, making sure he was ok. Her eyes searching his face, the stern features were cold. The same way someone held their own when they were trying to keep memories at bay. She gave him a soft smile before she turned her key to turn the car on completely. "So, see you at Silver Spurs," she repeated, sticking the car in reverse so she could pull out. She checked her mirrors quickly before she let her foot off the break before putting it on again so it crept back and then lurched to a stop. She did it again and smiled at him threw the open window. She was teasing him. Her car started to ding and she rolled her eyes, "Ok ok you stupid thing," she said, sticking her seat belt on.
She drove back to Silver Star, trying to put the image of Gray out of her mind. She wondered silently how it must have been over there.... She shouldn't be thinking about this, she said. "Ugh." She needed to just think about riding.... And yet Gray's face was stuck in her mind, the cold quiet look of a soldier at attention. She could just imagine him in the army greens.... She shook her head and made herself think of something else. She turned the radio on and 'Sound the Bugle' by Bryan Adams played. She laughed and pressed the arrow to a Katy Perry song....

It wasn't that he was too cold to care - it was just that everyone did the same. Calmly, gently acted like they understood even though they never would. The psychiatrists had been the worst, because they simply wouldn't accept the fact that they didn't understand at all. They all though the video on tv was the worst of it. It wasn't. Most of the time, when a camera man was there for the really bad days, they were too busy hiding or being torn from place to place to keep them safe. Sometimes they'd even tried anyway, then gotten themselves killed and the taped was never released because it didn't exist. At least regular people tried to show understanding, but if they were told they didn't understand at all, most of the time, they accepted that fact. Not that he'd often called people out on it. He just nodded as she changed the topic, grateful.
When he watched her going to pull out, there was a faint smile on his face at first - until he noticed the lack of a seatbelt. There was a flicker of fear in his eyes at the thought, but then she reached out, put the belt on, and it faded away, replaced with an easy, relieved smile. Satisfied now, his hands slipped into his pockets and he wandered back to his truck, hopping in and starting it up. Seatbelt on immediately, he flipped the cd he'd had in the truck on to hear it begin to play "Billionaire". He turned it up, letting his mind forget the memories as best it could as he backed out and headed back towards Silver Star.
A bit later, he pulled into the long driveway, heading down it to get to the parking lot and pulling his truck to a stop. He hopped out, locking it automatically and heading back into the barn to find her, shoving his keys in his pocket, hands finding their way back to his pockets as he hummed softly to Everybody Loves Me, which he'd cut off upon turning his truck off.

- - - - - - - - - because i like the way it hurts Just gonna stand there And hear me cry But that's alright Because I love The way you lie I love the way you lie - - - - - - - - - She'd pulled around to the hay barn so she could unload her grain into the trash cans that served as Grain Bins. She already had most of them unloaded and dumped into the proper bins. She had two bags left. She opened the rice bran and walked it over to her trash can that had the words 'Rice Bran' on it and dumped the remaining rice bran in it. She then grabbed the Sweet feed and dumped it in the other trash can that was the same size a trash can as the Rice Bran one. She then grabbed her blue buckets she used for feeding the grain in and scooped one scoop of Safe choice in each one, then one 1/2 cup scoop of platinum performance in each, and then she took the first one and scooped 1 full scoop of Sweet feed in it and put two little scoops of bute in it. She took the second one and stuck some bute in it and then grabbed her little bucket of Quiessence and scooped in two scoops for Fantigo. She then shut her lids and walked the grain into the barn. Her four horses started to bellow hungrily. "Yeah yeah, hold on!" she said with a smile. She set the grain buckets down on the cross ties mats before she grabbed the hose and started to water down the grain. She waited until she could see the water reach just above the grain levels before she carried them back down to her ponies. Largo was sticking his tongue out and grumbling. Fantigo pawed the ground before he banged his stall door. "Ah! No banging the door!" she said harshly to Fantigo. He retreated into his stall and began to pace, like a thoroughbred does.... She rolled her eyes before she grabbed their rubber grain buckets and she dumped the grain in each one before she slid them under the stall doors for them to munch. "Now that the ponies are fed I feel better." She'd give them their hay when she was done with riding Donaire. She'd stick Fantigo and De Oro out in the pasture when they finished. She looked outside. Well with it being dark maybe she'd just turn them out in the morning....
She stuck the buckets on top of each other before she stuck them on one of her tack boxes. "So where do you want me to sit?" she asked him.

At her question, he just shrugged.
Wherever you want, really. Just find somewhere comfortable.
Of course, it wasn't like he was clueless. He knew she'd probably chosen the barn, rather than a house or something, for a reason. But he wouldn't call her on it, and he didn't blame her. True, he didn't suffer from post traumatic stress disorder, but that didn't mean his eyes didn't get that glint sometimes. Usually, the memories themselves were filled with sorrow. He had hated firing his gun at anything more than paper targets. But he knew full well by what everyone said and did that the sorrow often didn't translate to his eyes, and instead they looked hollow, or perhaps cold and uncaring. He always hoped they didn't look angry, like the eyes of a killer, but he would never be sure. All he did know was that, despite what he had done, in his heart he'd always been a healer.

- - - - - - - - - because i like the way it hurts Just gonna stand there And hear me cry But that's alright Because I love The way you lie I love the way you lie - - - - - - - - - Fei mentally sighed, that helped her a lot. She looked around her, trying to use her resources. Ah hah! She thought as she spotted her tack box out of the corner of her eye. She walked over and scooted it away from the wall, making sure there was leg space before Fei sat down on one of her giant wooden tack boxes in the middle of the aisle. "This ok?" she asked, moving her long red hair out of the way to expose her back. She watched demurely as Fantigo slurped up his goodies.
Fei looked around a little awkwardly and she fiddled with her hair for a little bit before she finally spoke. "So... what's the weirdest thing you've been called out to on the job?" she asked quietly. She watched as birds fluttered in and out of the barn, slowly trying to settle in for the night. There were little twitters and a few little mini fights that were quickly taken to the rafters when the barn cat showed up on the scene.
NOTES: Sorry that was a really bad post I had no clue what to post ^^

His hands went to settle on her shoulders. He could practically feel some of the knots hardly pressing down, though he doubted his back was truly any better. Not bothering to say a word about it, his fingers began to massage her back, thumbs doing most of the work.
Well. It wasn't called out, so much as they came to us, but someone's pet skunk ate a coin once, back when I was interning with a small animal vet back home in LA.
He replied, smile growing just the slightest bit at the mention of Los Angeles. He could hardly stand it there now, too busy and crowded, but he missed the beach and the lesss crowded areas. The little coffee shop a few blocks from his apartment there hadn't been too bad either, really. His hands had moved down her back a bit by this point, just below her shoulder blades. They continued to work their way down, slowly kneading most of the knots away. He'd go right down to her lower back if she let him, though he wouldn't blame her if she didn't. It wasn't like she knew him particularly well, nor was he exactly a masseuse being paid to do this.
Just let me know when you want me to stop.
He murmured, not one to just leave it be and assume hse knew that she was pretty much in control. Sure, this was innocent, but still. He was cautious, always had been since his brother's death. Even when it wouldn't truly hurt anybody, like now. He threw caution to the wind on occasion, but not often enough for it to make him a particularly reckless man. In normal situations, even, the only thing "reckless and uncontrolled" was his words, and even then, they would only appear so. He almost always thought before he spoke - he just cared less about the consequences for what he said than he should.

Who would have one of those things!" Fei said wrinkling her nose. "I know they get their 'stink pouches' removed but their supposed to be wild... kind of reminds me of Bambi," she said with a little laugh, or more like a chuckle.
She felt his hands go lower and she squirmed a little and squeaked. "Sorry," she said laughing. "That just tickles." She began giggling a little again, the muscles in her lower back contracted slightly and she automatically shifted away from his hands because it tickled so much. She couldn't help it and she started to giggle to an uncontrollable point. She had to hide her face because she was giggling so much. Both hands over her smile and her blush. She hid her eyes from sight so she wouldn't suffer anymore embarrassment.
When the fit subsided she caught a couple of haggard breaths, her hand holding her side. Fantigo and Largo both had their heads out of their stalls and seemed to be looking at her with a very odd expression, almost as if they had eyebrows raised. "What are you looking at?" Fei said, straightening her shoulders and composing herself again. Largo and Fantigo put their heads back into their grain buckets and began slurping away again. "Sorry, I guess I haven't laughed in a while, it all came out at once," she said with a slight smile, her face dappled in a pink blush.

Instead, he just pressed his thumbs in harder so that it wouldn't tickle - or shouldn't have, anyway.
It's alright. Nothing wrong with laughing. Anyway, they say smiling prolongs your life.
He wasn't quite sure he believed that one, but smiling never really hurt either way. Did it really matter if it made you live longer? He didn't really think so - it was worth it all on its own. He continued his massaging, getting rid of all the knots in her back muscles, finishing just above her tail bone before he pulled his hands away, tipping to the side a bit so he could peer around at her, small smile on his face.
There. Feel better?

'What are you doing? Pull it together!' She went to stand up, she was going to place her hand on the tack box for leverage to stand up but she accidentally placed her hand on his thigh and she jerked it away as if she had touched a frying pain rather than his warm leg. MShe jumped up quickly, feeling very stupid all of the sudden....
She bit her lip, mentally smacking herself in the face for the slip of her hand. 'God you're retarded,' she repeated to herself in her mind. She pulled out the horses rubber feeders, which were all empty now and she grabbed Fantigo's halter. The horse came readily to the stall door and let her slip on his halter over the gate. Her face was still a light dusty pink and she refused, REFUSED to look at him. At least not at that moment or she'd blush all over again. "Sorry," she blurted out quietly to Gray. She hadn't meant to... well do what she did and she was making a big deal out of it and her mind needed to stop and GET OVER IT already!

Vet school had been better, of course. It was competitive enough that they simply couldn't get too distracted with things like that. When people said vet school was more competitive than even medical school, he hadn't believed them. At least, not until his first year. Over half had been unable to cut it, and they'd dropped out. So, he just shrugged, standing up, hands back in his pockets.
Accidents will happen.
He replied, brushing it off just like that. He didn't push the subject by walking closer and putting a hand on her shoulder to confirm it was fine, like he probably would have normally done. No point potentially making it worse. He did wander a few steps closer, but to one of the other stalls, his habit of leaning on them coming around again. He glanced over, turning the conversation towards where she felt more comfortable.
Need any help with the horses while I'm here?
He should get home, he knew. His foal was coming tomorrow and he needed all the rest he could get. His luck, the squirrel would want feeding just as he got to sleep after feeding Dawn, minimizing his sleep even further. But he figured he'd run off less, with the help of lots of coffee, when he was in university. He'd just go for that option instead. Far less healthy, but he hardly cared. Within a few weeks, the squirrel would be old enough to not be a problem, and the filly would be able to eat less regularly soon enough because she'd be able to reach hay and grass and other things. Then, at last, he'd be able to sleep again.

She would have had him stick around longer had she not just done that little 'stunt'. She felt pretty stupid and was kind of just hoping he'd be busy so she wouldn't have to worry about it.
"No I think I got it, just have to ride them, clean their stalls, and feed them and I'll be done for the night," Fei said. She walked over and grabbed Largo's halter before she clucked at him. Largo bellowed a soft greeting before sticking his head over the stall door and letting Fei slip on his halter. She pat Largo's other cheek and kissed his nose softly before she began opening his door to lead him out and into the wash racks.
