APPEARANCEThe first mistake a lot of people make with Big Red is thinking he's part draft horse simply because he's big and burly. That is not true. A mustang and a quarter horse made this big guy and created an enduring powerful stallion. His height comes from his sire, Straight Jack, whom was the same height as Red while his heavy musculature comes from his mother Redheaded Firecracker. If he'd been bred in the colonial days, Big Red would have been a stallion worth having thanks to his broad build and powerful shoulders. Coated in a rich red bay, he has the eyes of a fighter and dares everyone around him to come take a shot. Red uses his size to intimidate those around him, even challenging humans often by stomping his hooves and getting in their personal space. With the scars on his hind quarters and legs, it wouldn't be hard to find him frightening. He bears four black stockings, a white snip and white blaze as well as a black mane and tail. Apart from those simple markings and added to his scarred flanks, he's far from refined and handsome but well on his way to intimidating and powerful.
PERSONALITY[/blockquote]Just like his name implies, Red is a piece of work. He is a strong-willed, strong-minded individual that reminds some horsemen why they prefer the docile cowponies. Red tends to be a bit excitable and is as competitive as they come. His drive to be better than everyone else is what tends to get him wound up. Red will never accept being second best or being shown up by some pureblooded hotshot. He may be big and burly and not as fine as those other horses but Red will prove he's just as good at anything he tries. It takes a firm rider to keep this wild-minded stallion on task and consistant exercise to keep him from driving the horses around him mad. Prone to spooking from loud noises like thunder or slamming doors, Red has been known to be a bit violent when spooked. Whips also drive this stallion into rages, especially if someone uses it on him for no reason. Big Red has trouble trusting many people though his master does make the short list. Women have good luck with this big stallion simply because he was abused by men as a foal but a woman helped retrain him and showed him kindness alongside his new master.
OWNER[/blockquote]Anthony Isaac Masters
HISTORYBorn on a small farm in the deep south, Big Red is the son of Straight Jack and Redheaded Firecracker. The people that owned the farm however, bred their horses to sell and when they found out a studding mixup had occured, they were furious. Crossbreeds were not allowed. So, six months after birth, they sold Red to the first bidder. The man paid fifty bucks for the colt since he was a friend of the farm owners and they desperately wanted to be rid of the mistake. Red was mistreated and abused, whipped almost daily and occasionally left for weeks at a time in a barn on the edge of the man's property. When officials finally busted the man, Red was a year and a half old and in bad shape. Already having the genes to be competitive, aggressive and strong-minded, abuse had not done well for the colt. It strengthened these feelings into outright violence. Anita Cabarra was called in to work with the colt in an effort to make him adoptable by the humane agancy that took him in. Anita brought her nephew, Tony, to help out since he often helped her with particularly aggressive horses. After one day with the colt, Tony and Anita decided to make a leap of faith and adopt the colt to further work with him and hopefully train him into the competing partner Tony had been hunting for since purchasing the docile Lady Luck's Sweetheart. It took three years to straighten out Red and undo the damage a single abusive year had done. When the time came for Tony to move in with his Uncle Gavin, he chose to move Red with him and Lady since it was unlikely he'd be any use without someone he trusted to handle him.
